Your mods just wanted to give you a couple reminders:
1. Works are due in 3 days! on Wednesday 2/13 by 11:59pm EST/8:59pm PST

2. How to submit works:: You can go to the collection dashboard and hit Post to Collection and it will open the typical posting window. Or you can use Post New Work on ao3 like you normally would and in the Post to Collections/Challenges field type "ConsentEvent2019"

3. Please do not connect your work to a series or another of your works, or mention other work titles in the notes until the creators have been revealed on 2/28 as this removes your anonymity. If you have already done this, please edit your work.

4. If you need to edit your work for any reason go to your ao3 dashboard and navigate to Works then select Works in Collections OR Edit Works - your fic should show up at the top (or near the top if you have a lot of unrevealed works) as “Unrevealed: [your work title] by Anonymous”

Below the work description you should see an Edit button. From there you can make any changes you need -> preview, and then publish again.

Finally if you have any questions over the next couple of days, feel free to ask them in the Discord server, shoot us a DM and/or an email: consentevent@gmail.com. We will do our best to respond promptly.

Hello again my fellow consent lovers!

The mods just wanted to put forward a couple of additional recommendations/guidelines for your submissions based on some conversations we’ve been having. If you already submitted a work, this is unrelated so don’t worry. (We haven’t begun reviewing them yet.) We just want to make sure that the spirit of the event is very clear for folks. To this end, as you write and submit your works, we would like you to:

- Ask yourself if your submission is in the spirit of this event. Is it a work that promotes positive portrayals of consent?
- Ask yourself if your work is about consent or merely contains consent in some form? We are hoping that readers and writers will be excited about the works submitted because of the consent aspect. Consent should be the kink!
- Please use relevant tags, particularly tags as warnings. (Appropriate tagging does not mean noncon or dubcon. These are still unallowed in this event.)

Here are a few prompts about hurt and comfort!

One character takes care of another one (injured or sick), and obtains permission/consent to do any combo of the following: inspect an injury; take their temperature; undress or change them; give them a bath; go through their medical cabinet/bathroom; provide them physical comfort (hugging, hair brushing, back rubbing).

A character struggles with receiving affection/being intimate after a traumatic event.

An animal is injured but won’t let anyone near it when they try to help, hissing/growling/scratching anyone who tries to touch it. Person A tries asking permission - out of exasperation at this point - and the animal actually listens.

A few prompts centering conversations about consent.

A character having a conversation with a family member/friend about not liking physical affection & having that respected.

Person A - a young child - is learning to ask for permission for things. Person B - a parent, a friend, a sibling, etc. - is the person that A keeps asking things: “Can you tell me a story?” “May I have a snack?” “Can I have a hug?” Just lots of cuteness please!

Two people starting a relationship and one of them comes out as asexual. The other person asking what’s okay, what isn’t, etc. Maybe one of the partners learning how to be okay with it or processing it and such. Fluff too, maybe?

Here are a couple prompts that are good for general audiences.

One character takes care of another one (injured or sick), and obtains permission/consent to do any combo of the following: inspect an injury; take their temperature; undress or change them; give them a bath; go through their medical cabinet/bathroom; provide them physical comfort (hugging, hair brushing, back rubbing).

Person A hates birthday parties. Absolutely despises them. But Person B loves them, if only for the sake that it’s a time to show a person that people care about someone. Person B knows Person A doesn’t want to celebrate their own birthday, so B asks for permission to accept one gift/go out to one outing they think A will like. Person A says yes. Write about that one gift/outing. (platonic or romantic)

Character A and character B go on their first date which ends with A asking B for a kiss. Long, steamy make out session ensures.

A couple submitted prompts regarding firsts:

A new couple navigates their first kiss, which may or may not turn into more. Verbal permission is asked and consent is given either verbally or through physical response (initiates the physical kiss, moves closer, pulls their partner to them, etc.)

First time having sex (either first time ever or just first time between these partners)/continuous consent. The more experienced of them checks in with the less experienced before they lose their clothes. As things proceed, they both check in with each other; make sure they still want to proceed, that they are affirmatively consenting to more intimate touches and actions.

Character A and character B go on their first date which ends with A asking B for a kiss. Long, steamy make out session ensures.

Sex between partners of very different species or have sex in different ways, who aren't familiar with what the other species finds pleasurable or painful, both afraid of hurting another. They're both into it but loads of communication is needed every step along the way.

This Q&A will capture questions the mod team has received through our various communications channels and are all anonymized.

Anonymous asked:
Just for clarification, does [+ No noncon or dubcon allowed, even if consent is elsewhere in a submission] mean that noncon/dubcon can't have been in a character's background, and part of the fic is about them choosing to be with another person again?

A lot of characters have a variety of traumas in their background and dealing with and discussing that trauma is often how characters are able to open themselves up to another relationship. That is fine.

What we don't want are subversive fics that really belong in consent issues or noncon exchanges with a hand wave toward affirmative consent.

Anonymous asked:
“any characters engaging in sexual activity must be over 18” where I live, the age of consent is 16 so two 16 year olds could have sex with each other- would it be ok for a teenager to write about a character their age having sex or do they have to write about adults/people over 18?

For this event, we prefer that all characters engaging in sexual activity are 18 or older. The mods chose an age of consent that is common around the world and likely maintains the highest level of comfort. There are countries (and I believe states in the US) where the age of consent is 14 so varying by country was not an option we were comfortable with. We also took into account that in some countries, while you can consent to sex at 16 or younger, you cannot view or participate in pornography until 18.

While we certainly have no problem with teens writing about folks their own age being sexual, we won’t be able to monitor the age of writers or readers for this event. We felt for the broadest comfort levels and safety of readers that 18 was a better choice. Thank you for taking the time to clarify with us.

Anonymous asked:
Can we submit old fics we've written, as long as consent is present?

Hi there! The fest is only for new fics, but we do promote older fics that show consent! We have a channel in our discord server to showcase this and might look into rec lists or a running tag in the future.

Anonymous asked:
Will the prompts be first come, first serve? Or can multiple people pick a prompt? See also: Is the 'writing from a prompt inspiration' optional?

Prompts are open. The prompts will hopefully help people who want to participate but need ideas. As many people that want to create to a prompt may. We know other events have claimed prompts, will be open to feedback after the event but for now we are trying to keep things simple and flexible so a maximum amount of people can be involved. Writing from a prompt is completely optional.

Anonymous asked:
does the ban on RPF include historical RPF?

For this round, historical RPF is not allowed.

Anonymous asked:
Are all ships welcome for this event?

Yes, all ships are welcome as long as they fall within the event rules: no real people (self-inserts are okay) and any characters engaging in sexual activity must be over 18.

That being said, please keep in mind the nature of the event is all about consent and consider how power dynamics and different types of relationships might interact with that theme. We want the safety of readers to be maintained during this event while also allowing maximum flexibility.

Anonymous asked:
When will reveals happen?

Works in the collection will be revealed on February 14th and Creator reveals will happen on February 28th. Works in the collection will not show up as published works for you until February 28th, at that time, it will show up as a work, and subscribers are notified that you published a backdated work.

Anonymous asked:
So a lot of consent stuff happens in sexual situations. With tumblr's new rules regarding nsfw content, is there any plan for this event? Are you still holding it on tumblr, are you no longer allowing nsfw entries, are you moving to another site, etc?

The mods are currently discussing options right now. Tumblr no longer is a viable source for the event, but we still plan to hold it. We have no intention of excluding fan artists from this event.

The event itself will be held on A03, tumblr was just for promotional purposes. Also, shameless plug for our discord if you haven’t joined yet!

Anonymous asked:
I found this event recently, so forgive me if you’ve answered this before, but since the fics/art/etc. are going to be released anonymously at first, if we participate, are we allowed to post teasers/short snippets of our own pieces we plan to submit? Or will we have to wait until the creators’ names are officially released later in February? Thanks!

The mods discussed and decided that in order to preserve the anonymity, we would prefer if folks didn’t post snippets of works they are posting to the event until after authors are revealed. That being said, we’re happy for you to let people know that you’ll be submitting something for the event and for which fandom.
